Sínulhḵay is a monument to responsibility, balance and transformation. Rising 40 feet tall, clad in aluminum and lined with reclaimed, charred red cedar, the sculpture bridges the artists’ cultural lineages—Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and Japanese. The blackened interior evokes yakisugi, a traditional Japanese technique of wood preservation through fire, and the scorched path of Sínulhkay, the supernatural double-headed serpent of Sḵwx̱wú7mesh oral tradition.

Materials: Western red reclaimed cedar, carved with chip-carved texture with burnt outer surface and oiled, .375″ thick 120° v-carved aluminum outer sculpture, fabricated in front and back clamshell system and painted in 2-part urethane Matthews colour paint and internal LED lighting at centre concrete slab.
